Our Knutsford Beer Festival spotlight continues with something very different. It wouldn't be a beer festival without the chance to try something a little out of the ordinary. And this beer symbolises everything that's a bit wacky and daring about craft beer for those willing to dive in. As with the previous entries, the beers have been handpicked by Dexter and Jones expert Ben Selby who will also be curating all the keg and cask ales for the festival itself. The beers may vary but all the breweries featured will all be at the event.

The Brewery

Tiny Rebel, Newport

The multi award-winning Tiny Rebel, established in South Wales, is currently celebrating its eighth birthday and were one of the trailblazers in bringing craft beer into the mainstream. Founded by brothers-in-law Bradley Cummings and Gareth Williams in Newport, Tiny Rebel are the youngest and only Welsh brewery to win Champion Beer of Britain. The duo's philosophy is 'never just make vanilla ice cream' - a nod to their weird and wonderful …and flavourful beer recipes.

Thanks go to Ben for pushing me out of my comfort zone with this one. Sours are not usually something I'd go for but this was a good introduction because,

“it was tart rather than having a face-contorting tang!”

So after a rose gold pour, you get the rhubarb sharpness balanced against the vanilla and lactose standing in for the custard. Bizarre, and not for everyone, but Tiny Rebel have really nailed the flavour profile. You can try sour beers for yourself at the festival among other modern craft styles.
